On Tuesday, the Hyderabad office of UIDAI sent notices to 127 people for allegedly obtaining Aadhaar numbers on “false pretences” but it said that these notices had nothing to do with the citizenship.
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) said that the notices were issued after reports from the police. The state police reported to the Hyderabad office of UIDAI that 127 people had obtained Aadhaar on false pretences. The report further said that the police found them to be illegal immigrants not qualified to obtain Aadhaar number.
The Hyderabad office sent notices to those people on the basis of their police report and asked them to appear in person to substantiate their claims for getting Aadhaar numbers. The UIDAI further said that Aadhaar number had nothing to do with citizenship and cancellation of Aadhaar won’t affect nationality of any citizen.
In case it is found that those people have obtained Aadhaar numbers with forged documents, their Aadhaar numbers would be cancelled and appropriate would be taken depending on the severity of the transgression.
