Born on 14 April 1891 in a family of untouchables in Madhya Pradesh’s Mhow, Ambedkar championed Dalit rights and provided them a respectable place in the society through the Indian constitution.

Dr. BR Ambedkar belonged to the Mahar caste who are considered untouchables in Hinduism and subjected to socio-economic discrimination by the upper caste people. Ambedkar went to Elphinstone to complete his Master’s degree and went to Columbia for high studies on a Baroda State Scholarship. He also enrolled in the Bar course at Gray’s Inn and studied at the London School of Economics before coming to India.

In India, Ambedkar stood for Dalit rights and penned his sufferings as a Dalit in his autobiographical book “Waiting For A Visa”. On 29 August 1947, Ambedkar was appointed as the Chairman of the Constitution Drafting Committee for the constitution of independent India. And he used the opportunity to do justice for Dalits. Later he became the law minister of India.

On 14 October 1956, Ambedkar converted to Buddhism along with 500,000 supporters in Nagpur. Earlier he was considering becoming a Sikh but changed his mind after meeting eminent Sikh leaders. Before his conversion, he wrote an extensive account of Buddhism in his book The Buddha and His Dhamma. He breathed his last on 6 December 1956 at his home in Delhi.

Vikram Prabhu Starrer Gives A Glimpse Of The Hardships Of Police Training In Modern India

Written and directed by Tamizh, Taanakkaran movie revolves around a British-era Police Recruits School (PRS) that still follows the colonial rules set by the British to train Indian police officers. The movie questions the reason for continuing the tradition started by the British in India even after many years of independence. It is a nerve breaking story of police training in India.

Story

Arivazhagan aka Arivu (Vikram Prabhu) is a trainee police officer at PRS where police officers of independent India are trained on the lines of the British model. The recruits are expected to unquestioned obedience to their superiors and the system. The PRS is controlled by Inspector Muthupandi (Madhusudhan Rao) who with his valet Eeshwaramurthy (Lal) tortures the recruits in the name of parade training. Arivu raises his voice against the injustice done to the new entrants. He stands firm on exposing the system even after all hell breaks loose.
