Ramky was speaking at a panel discussion titled ‘Technology Powering Sports Revolution’ at the conclave. On availability of data, he indicated towards availability of huge data around athletes alone, but there are few resources to capture the data and use the information for correlation.

He warned that if the country failed to collect those data, it would lose a big opportunity and the chance to become a global leader. Sports Mechanics provides strategic consulting, technology, and analytics services to the global sports ecosystem.

After Adolf Hitler-led Nazi Party gained power in Germany, her family moved to Amsterdam, the Netherlands in 1934. But they have to take shelter in concealed rooms behind a bookcase in a building where Otto worked as persecution increased in 1942. They remain in the concealed rooms until their arrest by the Gestapo (Nazi secret police) in 1944. The Franks were then sent to detention camps where Anne and her sister, Margot, died due to illness.

Otto the only surviving member of the Frank family received the diary from his secretary, Miep Gies. He knew that Anne Frank wished to become a writer. Today’s Google Doodle is a tribute to Ștefania Mărăcineanu, the Romanian physicist and pioneer in the discovery and research of radioactivity. Born on 18 June 1882 in Bucharest, today is her 140th birthday and Google wants people to know about her contribution to science.

Early Life

Not much is known about her early life. She graduated in physics and chemistry in 1910. She taught science at the Central School for Girls in Bucharest. While teaching, she earned a scholarship from the Romanian Ministry of Science and decided to pursue graduate research at the Radium Institute in Paris.

Research Work

At the radium institute, she worked under the direction of physicist Marie Curie. She did her Ph.D. thesis on polonium, an element discovered by Curie. While working on the half-life of polonium, she noticed that the half-life was dependent on the metal type polonium was placed on. She wondered whether some atoms of the metal got transferred into radioisotopes by polonium alpha rays. Her observation led to the discovery of the first example of artificial radioactivity.

Ștefania Mărăcineanu completed her Ph.D. in physics in just two years from Sorbonne University in Paris and worked for years at the Astronomical Observatory in Meudon. After that, she returned to her homeland Romania and founded the first laboratory in Romania for the study of radioactivity.
