Coronavirus Shows Signs Of Slowing In China But It Is Increasing Outside China

While the coronavirus is still a major health issue in other countries, China reported a slump in the number of new infections and death in more than a month on Tuesday. Recently, three residents of a nursing care facility near Seattle died of coronavirus infection.

China records lowest number of coronavirus infections

There were only 125 confirmed cases and 31 coronavirus deaths in the last 24 hours in China. And it is the lowest figure of officially confirmed coronavirus cases since January, when Xi Jinping issued his first public orders on coronavirus.

In Hubei Province, 2,410 coronavirus patients were released from medical facilities. Hubei is the area where the epidemic erupted and took enormous form. China restricted movement of 700 million people in order to contain the infection. But experts warned that the real test of coronavirus will be when China frees its citizens from the lockdown state.

South Korea had a total of 4,800 confirmed cases on Monday. It saw the second largest outbreak after China. In Europe, the people were warned to prepare for a bigger outbreak of coronavirus. In Iran that was the largest outbreak in Asia; there were 1,501 confirmed cases. Coronavirus has spread to 70 countries. The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the world has reached 90,000 and number of deaths reported are 3,000. In the US, the infection has reached 100 mark.

After Reporting 2,345 Death, Chinese Counting Shows A Drop In New Coronavirus Cases

According to the National Health Commission, the fatalities in China due to novel coronavirus has increased by 109. The new number of new coronavirus death cases is 2,345.

Novel coronavirus cases in China

397 new cases of coronavirus infection cases were reported nationwide and it is down from nearly 900. The total number of coronavirus cases is 76,000. The drop in the cases was found while the officials in Hubei province were revising the figures to clear the data.

The National Health Commission said that the data of new cases for February 19 was revised up to 820 that was up from 394 previously reported. The new numbers also increased the confirmed coronavirus cases for February 20. The new figure was 75,891 that was up by 400 numbers.

Data revision ordered

The local authorities in Hubei decided to change the past data announced on Friday. It was done to introduce a new counting technique to clear the doubts over data. But the new way would further complicate the efforts of tracking the spread of illness.

Last week, patients diagnosed via clinical methods including lung imaging in addition to those confirmed by lag tests were added in the final list of coronavirus cases.But on Thursday, the Chinese officials backtracked the decision of adding the new cases. Also, they deducted 279 cases but soon the cases were re-added to the count on Friday.

Donald Trump and Melania Trump are visiting India on February 24. It would be a two-day visit starting with a grand event in Ahmedabad in Modi’s home state Gujarat.

With 103 new deaths reported from the hard-hit Hubei province, the total number of fatalities due the coronavirus in China crosses the one thousand mark. According to the latest figures it is 1,011. Also, Hubei health commission confirmed 2,097 new cases in its latest update.

The president called for “more decisive measures” to contain the outbreak. He made this statement after meeting the medical workers and patients admitted in hospitals.

WHO sent team to China

World Health Organization sent an international expert mission under the leadership of Bruce Aylward to check China’s response to the coronavirus. Bruce had supervised the organization’s 2014-2016 response to the Ebola epidemic in West Africa.

Meanwhile WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus warned that there had been some “concerning instances” of coronavirus infection with no travel history to China. Britain said that the coronavirus in UK had been doubled from 4 to 8. It also said that the outbreak of novel coronavirus was a “serious and imminent threat”.

The US President Donald Trump expressed his belief that the novel coronavirus would disappear with onset of summer in April. But the top health officials in the US don’t agree with this prognosis.

NASA Astronaut Christina Koch Breaks Longest Female Stay Record

Christina Koch became the first woman astronaut to spend close to 11 months aboard the International Space Station. She was there in space with Luca Parmitano of the European Space Agency and Alexander Skvortsov of the Russian space agency.

Koch was seated and smiling while touching down at 0912 GMT. She dropped on the Kazakh steppe after spending 328 days in space. The world saw her as she was extracted from the Soyuz descent module in the video footage of Roscosmos space agency.

The 41-year old Michigan-born engineer was blasted off on March 14 last year. She returned safely to earth on February 7, 2020. The US President Donald Trump congratulated Koch on Twitter.

Donald Trump congratulated Koch on breaking the female record of longest stay in the space. He also said that she was inspiring the young women and making the US proud.

Koch broke record

The earlier record of 289 days was made by NASA veteran Peggy Whitson in 2016-17. But Koch broke that record on December 28. Today, she is only female astronaut to stay in space for more than 300 days. She also made history of the first-ever all-woman spacewalk along with NASA counterpart Jessica Meir in October.

After a tiring three-and-a-half-hour journey back to earth, Koch told reporters that she would “miss microgravity”. She told that it was only in space where people can jump from floor to ceiling. She was taken to NASA for medical testing.

He observed symptoms of the deadly SAARS virus in the early patients visiting the hospital. And the 34-year old doctor lost no time in understanding that there was another outbreak of virus. He sent alert messages his friends on December 30 but was later summoned for “rumour-mongering” along with other whistle-blowers.

China mourns death of Li Wenliang

The hospital where Li worked made a statement after his death. The statement read that the doctor got infection while treating other patients. And that he breathed his last on February 7. The hospital tried its best to save a valuable life but he couldn’t be saved.

People reacted to Li’s death

Li was summoned along with others for “rumour-mongering” and later he was made to sign a statement where he admitted making false comments that disturbed the social media. Chinese Supreme Court also said that Li was treated inappropriately by the authorities.

The netizens hailed Li as a martyr. He was a hero for Chinese people as he tried to save them from the outbreak. His death sparked an outrage among the people who blamed the authorities for hiding the truth about the outbreak.

Novel Coronavirus Took 360 Lives In China And 1 In Philippines On Sunday

The novel coronavirus has claimed 360 lives in China exceeding the 349 mainland fatalities from SARS outbreak in 2002-03. The fresh death was reported from a major city far from the epicenter. The city is under lockdown.

China under the threat of novel coronavirus outbreak

56 new fatalities were reported from Hubei that is the epicenter of the outbreak. But Chinese authorities are still struggling to contain the virus but locking their cities down. On Sunday, the authorities confined people to their homes and closed roads in the eastern city of Wenzhou.

Wenzhou is approximately 800 kilometers from Wuhan from where the novel coronavirus emerged at the world stage. The virus has infected close to 17,000 people and spread to 24 countries outside China.

International outbreak of novel coronavirus

The first international fatality was reported from Philippines where a 44-year old patient from Wuhan died due to infection. The virus has spread to G7 countries – Canada,France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States have confirmed cases of novel coronavirus infection. The G7 countries would discuss a joint response said Germany’s health minister Jens Spahn.

In Thailand, an elderly novel coronavirus patient from China showed dramatic improvement when treated with a cocktail of flu and HIV drugs. He tested negative for coronavirus for 48 hours later. Thailand has 19 confirmed cases of novel coronavirus.It was found that most of the people affected with novel coronavirus had a travel history to China.
