Polar Portal is the monitoring agency. This joint project involving leading Danish Arctic research institutes started work in 2002 and released the data of two decades of study last week.

The ice melt seen in the satellite images provided by the US-German GRACE programme (Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment) was most severe near the coasts of the Arctic territory.

Observations by independent researchers also highlight thinning of the ice. They also highlighted glacier fronts retreating in fjords and on land.

The US Again Warns India of CAATSA Sanction Over S-400 Missile Deal

The US again raised its concern over India buying S-400 missile defense system to India and called Russia is playing a destabilizing role in the region. But it admitted that India’s decision to buy Russian missiles is based on the national interest of the country.

State Department Spokesperson Ned Price said that the US had concerns with the S-400 system and he thought that the deal put the destabilizing role of Russia not only in the region but potentially beyond as well in the spotlight.

Price further maintained that while the US hadn’t decided about the missile deal, it was something the US continued to discuss with the government of India about the risk of CAATSA sanctions for the missile deal with Russia.

Price was speaking to the reporters about the implications of the Russian missile on the Indo-US bilateral ties. The US is analyzing the deal in the shadow of its heightened tensions with Moscow for Russia’s imminent Ukraine invasion.

India closed the S-400 missile deal despite strong objections from the Biden administration and the threat of US sanctions. Also, the US administration has yet to decide on CAATSA sanctions.

Price said that the US continued to urge all countries to avoid buying Russian weapon systems. He further maintained that the US didn’t have a timeline to offer, but the Biden administration continued to discuss those issues with New Delhi.

Fans are allowed in UEFA Euro 2020 Championship that will kickstart on Friday. While the governing body has agreed to allow at least some fans in the stadiums, the final number of spectators including fans could be different due to pandemic-related restrictions.

How many spectators are allowed for Euro 2020 matches?

Euro 2020 matches will be played in 11 cities including Glasgow, St. Petersburg, Sevilla, Bucharest, Budapest, Baku, and London that will host the most games. While most stadiums will allow 25% spectators, some could go up to 45% of their total strength. Munich is the only city that will allow only 22% of spectators to enjoy the matches.

Budapest, Baku, and St. Petersburg want to allow from 50% to 100% spectators in their stadiums. According to this arrangement, Hungry will allow 68,000 fans in Puskas Arena stadium where its team will play two crucial matches with European Champion Portugal and World Cup Champion France.

In Azerbaijan, the spectators could be around 35,000, but Russia will allow only 30,000 fans for the six group matches and a quarterfinal that will be played in that country.

London that is host to a maximum of eight matches in Wembley Stadium will allow only 25% of the total capacity of spectators to fill the stadium. But the fans are expecting the cap to be raised at least for the two semifinals and the final match.

Jeff Bezos is the wealthiest man in the world by Forbes’ estimate and now he’s going to be the first billionaire to travel to space. The flight will take July 20 on the 52nd anniversary of the first moon landing by Apollo 11 which took Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin to the moon.

Bezos will be accompanied by his younger brother, Mark who’s an investor and volunteer firefighter. Also, there’ll if a lucky winner of an online charity auction. A New Shephard rocket will take all the occupants to space from remote West Texas on the said date.

Blue Origin’s flight details

Blue Origin took inspiration from Alan Shephard who’s the first American to go to space in a sub-orbital ride aboard a Mercury capsule in 1961. Blue Origin even named its capsule on Alan Shephard. But Bezos flight will be five minutes less than Shephard’s historical flight.
