Cyclone Nisarga Approaching Mumbai At 120 KMPH

Mumbai the financial capital of India is bracing for a cyclone in over 100 years. It was a tropical cyclone named Nisarga but it intensified into a “super cyclonic storm” today morning.

  1. Cyclone Nisarga will make landfall about 100 km from Mumbai near Alibaug. Its wind speed could be up to 110 km/hour gusting up to 120 km/hour.
  2. In Maharashtra, more than 19,000 people have been moved to safe places. CM Udbhav Thackeray has appealed people to stay indoors.
  3. The eye of the storm is visible in the Dopplers Weather Radars (DWR) that are tracking the storm in Mumbai and Goa. The diameter of the eye is 65 km.
  4. Mumbai police has banned human movement along the coastline since last night.
  5. Directorate General of Civil Aviation cautioned airlines against operating in cyclonic conditions.
  6. A storm surge of up to 6.5 meters high will inundate the low-lying areas of Mumbai, Thane and Raigad districts.
  7. Over 30 National Disaster Response Force teams have been deployed at sensitive areas to conduct rescue operations.
  8. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took stock of the situation and payed for the well being of all.
  9. Indian Coast Guard Ships and planes have been warning fishermen to return to harbour before cyclone sets in.
  10. It is second cyclone to strike India’s coastline in less than two weeks. Earlier Cyclone Amphan made landfall in West Bengal and Orissa. It killed 100 people and displaced millions.

China Upset Over US Inviting India, Russia To G7

As the president of G7, Trump wants to invite India, Australia, South Korea and Russia to the group. And he has already sent his invites to the countries. But he is yet to receive confirmation from those nations.

China criticized US move on G7

China said that any move to seclude China in the global platform was doomed to fail. It said that China believed all international organizations and conferences should be conducive to mutual trust between countries. It further said that any attempt to make a small circle against China would become unpopular.

Russia yet to respond to the G7 call

Russia was a former ally of G8 before it was expelled from the group in 2014 by then US President Barack Obama. Obama took the strong step of ousting Russia from the group after Russia took Crimea. Since then Russia had developed a close strategic partnership with China. But the reports are that Russia has shown interest in joining the group.

G7 invitees

G7 is a group of seven developed economies – US, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and Canada. The group members hold annual presidency and they meet once every year. This year, the G7 group is expected to meet in September.

The group president can invite head of the states to discuss global issues. Last year, India joined the group at the invitation of French President Emanuel Macron. This year, US President Trump wants India and three other countries to attend the G7 meet.

George Floyd’s Death Was A Homicide Claimed In Autopsy

George Floyd died in a homicide involving neck compression according to the official autopsy of the African-American whose death in police custody triggered unrest and widespread rioting across the United States.

The report, released on Monday, held cardiopulmonary arrest due to neck compression as the real reason of his death. And claimed that the death of George Floyd, a 46-year old African-American, was a homicide. The report was prepared by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner in Minneapolis.

Medical condition of George Floyd

The autopsy describes the medical health of Floyd as arteriosclerotic and hypertensive heart disease; fentanyl intoxication; recent methamphetamine use. It added that the manner of death was not a legal determination of culpability or intent.

Under Minnesota state law the Medical Examiner is a neutral and independent office and is separate and distinct from any prosecutorial authority or law enforcement agency.

US Worried Over Increased Chinese Presence On LAC Said Mike Pompeo

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo mentioned India-China stand off while attacking China in Marc Thiessen and Danielle Pletka of AEI’s ”What The Hell Is Going On” Podcast.

China increasing forces along LAC

Mike Pompeo said that China had moved its forces up to north of India along Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh and Sikkim. He said that both the armies building up their strength was a clear indication of escalating tension. He further said that the hardening of positions continued even two separate face-offs between India and China.

China hiding truth in coronavirus pandemic

Pompeo alleged that the Communist Party of China (CPC) continued to hide and delay the response on coronavirus pandemic that began in Wuhan in China. Also, he alleged that the CPC robbed the Chinese people in China and Hong Kongers in Hong Kong of their freedom. He said that the authoritarian regime in China had an impact on the people around the world.

Mike Pompeo said that the above mentioned two incidents reveal the true nature of the Communist Party of China. He alleged that China continued to steal intellectual property and advancing in the South China Sea.

US can stop China

Pompeo said that the US had the responsibility and capability to safeguard the interests of its citizens from China. He said that China had developed its military capabilities only to threaten its neighbours. And that the US had responded to China in the real way for the past two decades.

Pak Officials Shunted Out For Spying

The Foreign Ministry charged two officials of Pakistan High Commission of espionage and asked them to leave the country within 24 hours. The officials were caught by Delhi Police’s special cell for carrying out espionage in the country.

Pak’s spy officials

Abeed Hussain and Tahir Khan were employed in the visa section of Pakistan High Commission but in reality, they were employed by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) for spying on India. Their job was to move around by using fake identity papers said Delhi Police.

Pak officials are asked to leave

The Pak officials were declared persona non grata for their involvement in activities incompatible with their status as members of a diplomatic mission. They were asked to leave the country within 24 hours.

Foreign Ministry issued a demarche

A strong protest was registered with Pakistan’s Charge de Affairs and a formal complaint about Pak officials involving in spy activities. India made it clear that their activities were against the national interests of India. Also, Pak’s Cd’A was asked to make sure that no official of the diplomatic mission should ever get involved in any activity that is in anyway compatible to his/her status.

Mark Zuckerberg Questioned Twitter’s Reasoning Over Trump’s Posts

Twitter has started warning President Trump for inaccurate and inflammatory tweets by fact-checking his posts but Facebook has yet to take a decision in this regard. Also, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has explained why he took Trump’s inflammatory posts so passively.

Threat from the US President

Donald Trump threatened the Minneapolis protestors with military action and this incident snowballed in Twitter adding warning to Trump’s tweet.

• Minneapolis citizens were protesting the killing of 46-year old George Floyd when Trump took to social media to show his displeasure against the protests. He made series of posts on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. He said that the talked to Governor Tim Walz and told the governor that the military was with the governor. And that the military could take over the situation and shoot the looters.

• Twitter replied to the post saying that the post was glorifying violence. But it allowed the social media users to view the message from President Trump.

Mark Zuckerberg who owns Facebook and Instagram took no action but he explained his silence. He said he was personally against such posts but as a leader of a media house, it was his duty to allow freedom of expression to everyone.

• While he made it clear that Facebook didn’t allow content that incites violence but Trump’s message was more like a warning from the National Guard. And he thought that people need to know whether government was planning to use force.

• In Mark Zuckerberg’s opinion, Twitter’s reasoning was muddle because it took instant action in inflammatory messages without considering the news value of the content.

Delhi Gets Repeated Quakes Starting April

Two earthquakes sent tremors across Delhi NCR in late evening on Friday. While the first quake was of a medium intensity, the second was a low intensity. The epicenter was of the quake was Rohtak in Haryana that is approximately 60 km from Delhi.

First quake

It occurred around 9:08 pm and it measured 4.5 magnitude on Richter scale. The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) recorded that the quake happened at a depth of 5 km in the epicenter. Tremor of this quake were felt across the national capital and the adjoining areas including Noida.

Second quake

It occurred within a span of one hour of the first quake. But it was a low intensity quake. The second earthquake occurred at 10 pm and it was measured 2.9 on the Richter scale. The NCS said that it was a low intensive quake with the epicenter in Rohtak in Haryana.

After India, China Also Rejects Trump’s Offer For Mediation

Chinese media promptly reacted to Trump’s offer of mediation between India and China to resolve the ongoing standoff in Ladakh and Sikkim sector. China’s state-run media said that leaderships of both the countries were capable of resolving the dispute just like they resolved the Doklam standoff in 2017.

Donald Trump send his offer for mediation to resolve the issue of LAC between China and India in a tweet. He said that he was ready, willing and able to mediate between the two countries. The tweet further read that the US had informed both China and India that Trump was willing to mediate to help resolve the flaring border dispute between the two Asian countries.

China turned Trump’s offer down

The op-ed article on state-run Global Times said that China and India didn’t need any help from the US. Both the countries need to be aware about the US that exploited every opportunity to jeopardize regional peace and order. The article further read gave example of the Doklam face off and explained how both the countries resolved that issue. The article expressed faith and belief in the leadership of both the countries.

Indian experts advised that both the countries should constitute a channel of communication for resolving border dispute.
