All Exams In The Country Postponed Till March 31

The educational ministry asked all educational institutions including Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to postpone all exams till March 31 in view of coronavirus outbreak.

HRD secretary Amit Khare, in an official communication, said that the while maintenance of academic calendar and exam schedule was important, equally important was safety and security of students that were appearing in various exams as also of their teachers and parents.

Exams postponed

The order applies to CBSE-affiliated schools that are conducting tests of 10 and 12 classes; National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), University Grants Commission (UGC), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), and the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main) and all autonomous organisations under the education ministry.

But the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (ICSE) is allowed to conduct board exams for 10 and 12 classes.

The announcement of postponement of exams was made amid the increasing number of coronavirus cases in India. It was the latest in the curbs put across the country to contain spread of COVID-19.

There is doubt whether the Madhya Pradesh assembly will hold “motion of confidence” as per the directions of Governor Lalji Tandon. The cabinet on Sunday contended that the Governor can’t direct the state assembly because he doesn’t have the power. Also, the cabinet asked the Chief Minister Kamal Nath to take call on the issue.

In case, the government delays the issue, the opposition can introduce the “no confidence” motion against the government that has come into minority after 22 JyotiradityaScindia loyalists left the 15-month old government. Mr. Scindia was sidelined in the party since the assembly polls.

Delhi Government Shuts Schools, Colleges And Cinemas Till March 31

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal order shutting of schools, colleges and cinema halls till March 31 to counter spread of coronavirus. The Delhi government has already shut primary classes earlier but middle and the secondary classes were allowed to function in view of final exams.

Delhi declares coronavirus as an epidemic

Arvind Kejriwal took the step in the wake of increasing number of coronavirus cases in the country. The total number of COVID-19 cases has become 73 with Kerala being the hardest affected state. It has 17 cases of coronavirus infection. It has also shut educational institutions and public places like cinema halls.

The Maharashtra government banned sale of tickets for 2020 IPL opening match between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings in the wake of spread of coronavirus. Also, the remaining two ODIs between India and South Africa will be played in empty stadiums.

Nobody Will Be Marked D In NPR: Amit Shah In Rajya Sabha

On Thursday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah made a clarification regarding National Popular Register (NPR). He said that no one would be declared doubtful (D), if the person failed to produce relevant papers.

No documents needed said Amit Shah. He allowed people to give whatever information they have and leave the questions blank. And he assured that no one would be marked D.

The Home Minister replied that no documents would be asked from the people.Amit Shah even asked the Leader of Opposition, Ghulam Nabi Azad of Congress and other opposition leaders to visit him to clarify doubts on NPR.

Congress wary of NPR

Kapil Sibal asked about usability of the exercise, if no documents were needed. Several states including Bihar and Tamil Nadu where BJP allies are in power have refused to carry out NPR exercise. In Bihar, there is Nitish Kumar and in Tamil Nadu, there is AIADMK in power with the help of BJP.

Jyotiraditya ScindiaIs Set To Join BJP Later This Week

JyotiradityaScindia resigned from Congress on Tuesday morning. The former Union Minister and four-time parliamentarian resigned shortly after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi. Days after criticising BJP over violence in Delhi, he is expected to join BJP later this week and could be rewarded with a Rajya Sabha seat and a berth in the union cabinet.

Shortly after his exit, 21 Congress MLAs also put their resignation letters to the Governor. Some sources in Madhya Pradesh Raj Bhawan revealed that 25 MLAs were ready to resign.
