Jeff Bezos Will Fulfill His Childhood Dream Of Blasting Into Space In His Rocket

The 57-year-old Amazon founder, Jeff Bezos, is planning a trip to space in his rocket. He will ride a reusable New Shephard rocket that has been tested 15 times by his Blue Origin Company.

When will the flight take off?

Jeff Bezos is the wealthiest man in the world by Forbes’ estimate and now he’s going to be the first billionaire to travel to space. The flight will take July 20 on the 52nd anniversary of the first moon landing by Apollo 11 which took Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin to the moon.

Bezos will be accompanied by his younger brother, Mark who’s an investor and volunteer firefighter. Also, there’ll if a lucky winner of an online charity auction. A New Shephard rocket will take all the occupants to space from remote West Texas on the said date.

Blue Origin’s flight details

Blue Origin took inspiration from Alan Shephard who’s the first American to go to space in a sub-orbital ride aboard a Mercury capsule in 1961. Blue Origin even named its capsule on Alan Shephard. But Bezos flight will be five minutes less than Shephard’s historical flight.

Also, the New Shephard capsule has more room than its predecessor. What is more exciting is that every seat in the capsule is provided with a huge window to soak in panoramic views of the space.

Jeff Bezos wants to start his space tourism business with this flight. He will offer seats to interested people. The flight will include three minutes of weightlessness in space. But the cost of a ticket is yet to be announced.

On Elon Musk and Tesla

Tim Cook said that he thought that Tesla had done an unbelievable job of establishing and keeping the lead for a long time in the EV space. He didn’t give any hint on buying Tesla but said that they investigated many things internally and many of them never saw the light of day.

On removing Parler from the App store

Tim Cook said that that was a straightforward decision because the app weren’t adhering to the guidelines of the App Store. He said that one couldn’t incite violence or allow people to incite violence. He further said that he hoped that the app would come back.

On social media attack on the Capitol

Tim Cook said that he was deeply worried about the amplification of social media as a targeting tool to spread misinformation or extremist sentiments. For the Capitol attack, he said that it was the darkest day in their history.

On data theft

Tim Cook said that he was appalled by that and for that reason, they came out with things like a privacy nutrition label. He said that they would improve that over time.

Now Change Chat Box Color And Adjust Playback Speed Of Voice Messages On WhatsApp

WhatsApp is working on two important features to take the user experience to the next level. First, the users will be allowed to change the colors of their chat boxes, and second, they could optimize the playback speed of voice messages according to their convenience.

What is color changing feature?

WhatsApp chat box comes in dark color and texts appear in white for visibility. After the color changing feature is introduced, you will be able to change the chat box color where the text on the screen will appear in a darker shade of green. This feature is expected to make text matters more legible.

What is the playback voice message feature?

WhatsApp allows sending voice messages that users can listen to on speaker or headphones. And now they can adjust the playback speed of voice messages for more clarity. Presently users have to replay fast voice messages again and again to understand the messages, but with the new feature, they could adjust the speed of playback messages.

The new playback voice message feature will provide three-speed options – 1x, 1.5x, and 2x. It will be available with WhatsApp version 2.21.60.11 but it is exclusively for iOS users. WhatsApp is beta testing this feature to check its functionality. WhatsApp could make it available for all users in the future.

When would these features be available?

WhatsApp is silent on the release date of both the color changing and playback voice message features as both are under the testing stage. But they could be released anytime.

The rear cameras include a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle shooter and a 123-degree field of view (FoV), as well as an 8-megapixel telephoto shooter. The front-facing selfie camera has auto-focus support.

Why Were Instagram And WhatsApp Down And Who Benefitted From This Outage?

Instagram and WhatsApp users witnessed over half-an-hour downtime tonight globally. It started around 11 pm when the users first reported the outage when they weren’t able to upload their photos or send messages.

What was the reason behind the outage?

Facebook who owns both Instagram and WhatsApp released a statement soon after noticing the outage. It said that users tweeted about the difficulty they faced in uploading content and sending messages during outage. A spokesperson from Facebook said that it was a technical issue that had been resolved and that they were apologetic for the inconvenience caused to the users.

What did outage tracking website say about the outage?

Downdetector.com reported that the Facebook owned apps Instagram and WhatsApp were down for over 30 minutes from 11 pm and 11:40 pm. The website noted more than 1.2 million reports about Instagram outage and over 23,000 posts about issues with WhatsApp. Downdetector website uses user-submitted errors on its platform to track downtime of different websites.

How was Signal benefitted from WhatsApp outage?

The rival messaging app Signal tweeted a swipe on the WhatsApp outage by expressing its solidarity with the people working on the WhatsApp downtime. It further stated that people outside the tech industry would never know how weird that sounded when someone said that they were looking forward to some weekend outage. It also said that Signal registrations were through the roof and welcomed everyone on its platform. It is to be noted that Signal claims better user privacy and security.

Google found that the businesses will need reskilling their employees by 2025 and this gap will increase, if the training of the employees and jobseekers isn’t started at the earliest.

Google’s data shows that 82% of graduates have been benefitted with the certificate courses. They got huge benefits in the form of getting a raise, finding new jobs and starting new businesses within six months of completing the certificate courses.

Sundar Pichai said that they would also announce a new Associate Android Developer Certification to prepare learners for entry-level jobs in Android development. He further said that availability of 1.3 millions jobs in that field provided significant opportunities for the graduates. Last year, Google announced a $10-billion Google for India Digitization Fund to speedup the digitization process of India over 5-7 years.

Joe Biden Opens His Doors For Indian IT Professionals

US President Joe Biden rescinded the three policy memos about foreign workers on visas like H-1B due. Taken by previous Trump government, the decisions put severe restrictions on the Indian IT professionals and others seeking employment in the US.

What were those decisions?

On June 17, 2020, the Trump government rescinded two prior policy memoranda by issuing a Policy Memorandum 602-0114. The policies rescinded were:

• Determining Employer-Employee Relationship for Adjudication of H-1B Petitions, Including Third-Party Site Placements issued on January 8, 2010

• Contracts and Itineraries Requirements for H-1B Petitions Involving Third-Party Worksites,” issued on February 22, 2018

On February 3, 2021, Trump government issued another Policy Memorandum 602-0142.1 to do away with PM-602-0142. This policy memo was rescission of the December 22, 2000 Guidance memo on H1B computer related positions issued on March 31, 2017.

US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) said that both the memos would apply to any pending or new [H-1B Petitions], including motions on and appeals of revocations and denials of H-1B classification.

What is the current stage of US visa applications?

Biden administration allowed petitioners to reopen and/or reconsider adverse decisions of the earlier policy memos by filing Form I-290B, Notice of Appeal of Motion to reverse. USCIS would charge a reopening fee.

Also, USCIS is provided discretionary powers to accept and consider untimely motions but the discretionary powers can be exercised only under certain circumstances as explained and permitted by the government. The petitioners have to keep the policy timeline in mind while filing their petitions.
