Once a striker of Manchester United, Ronaldo joined Real Madrid during 2009-10 season at a cost of 80 million euros.

Neymar’s name is collectively taken with Lionel Messi and Luis Suerez when they were called the attacking trio of Barcelona. But Neymar switched to Paris Saint-Germain at a high fee of 222 million euros. He debuted in football at the age of 18 and soon became the highest goal-scorer for Brazil.

Carlos Tevez

Three-time winner of South American Footballer of the year, Tevez can perform different roles including that of striker, supporting forward and a winger. He also won Argentine Sportsperson of the year.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Gheorghe Hagi, Billy Sharp, and Sven-Goran Eriksson are the other prominent strikers born on February 5. They have also played good football. Some of them are retired while others are still running with the ball.

  1. Finance Minister Ms Sitharaman has promised that this budget is going to be unprecedented as the PM has already hinted towards extension of the measures announced in 4-5 mini budgets in 2020.
  2. Ms Sitharaman was seen carrying a tablet with the national symbol embossed on it instead of papers indicating that it is going to be a paperless budget. And it will be the first time in the history.
  3. The FM is expected to unveil plans to revive the economy to achieve 11% growth target on the face of a forecasted 7.7% contraction in the current financial year.
  4. The FM needs doing more to revive the economy that was already in the slow down mode before the pandemic and slipped into recession to its lowest in 11 years during the crisis. There could be 15% more spending on healthcare and infrastructure. Also, the taxpayers could get further relief in the budget.
  5. The healthcare budget could be doubled to raise the expenditure to 4% of the GDP to meet healthcare needs highlighted during the pandemic. Also, there could be 1% of income and corporate tax to fund the healthcare budget.
  6. Pandemic-hit sectors like real estate, aviation, tourism and automobile are expecting tax relief in the budget.
  7. The FM could suggest measures to drive the fiscal deficit

Sridhar Vembu, who founded Zoho Corp, has been awarded the Padma Shri on the 72nd Republic Day. A graduate of IIT Madras and Princeton University, Sridhar Vembu recently moved back to his hometown Tenkasi village in Tamil Nadu in India. But he denied that he moved to India due to pandemic.

World Blood Donor Day 2020 Says Safe Blood Saves Life

Every year June 14 is observed as the World Blood Donor Day but this year, it is going to be very special because COVId-19 has made voluntary blood donation a difficult task. It has added one more screening test for the blood.

The theme for this year is “safe blood saves life” and health experts and patient advocacy groups have come together to promote blood donation and stressed on the safety aspect of blood donation especially when it has become scarce amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Harsh Vardhan appealed for blood donation

Union Health Minister appealed to voluntary organizations, NGOs and people at large to come forward and donate blood so that the country has ample stock of blood to meet any eventuality. According to WHO, there were 11.6 million unpaid blood donations from 2008 to 2015. It said that 78 countries collected over 90% of their blood supply from voluntary unpaid blood donors. And 58 countries got supplies from family/replacement or paid donors.

Shortage of blood in India

Professor K. Srinath Reddy, the president of Public Health Foundation of India, and a member of the ICMR COVID-19 taskforce said that blood banks across the country were facing shortages of blood components and stressed the need for at least one good blood bank in each district of India.

Mr. Mukherjee further said that blood donated by voluntary donors was considered safer than those donated by paid donors. He also said that the experts were expecting more safe blood.
