PM Narendra Modi Remembers The Valor Of Jallianwala Bagh Martyrs

On Baisakhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared a picture of his earlier visit to Jallianwala Bagh memorial to commemorate departed souls of those people that laid their lives in 1919 on the day of Baisakhi.

PM Modi paid tributes to martyrs

While paying his tributes to the martyrs of Jallianwala Bagh, the PM said that the valor of those people would inspire Indians for years to come. He said in a tweet that he bowed to those martyrs that were killed mercilessly in Jallianwala Bagh on April 13. The country would never forget their courage and sacrifice.

The Jallianwala Bagh massacre

A troop of British Indian Army under the command of Colonel Reginald Dyer ordered firing on group of unarmed protestors and pilgrims who had gathered at Jallianwala Bagh on the event of Baisakhi on April 13, 1919. The crowd were protesting peacefully the arrest of two national leaders – Satya Pal and Saifuddin Kitchlew.

Colonel Dyer arrived at the Jallianwala Bagh with his troop and ordered firing at the peaceful assembly. The troops fired innumerable bullets at the crowd from a narrow alley that was the only exit from the Jallianwala Bagh.

In the crowd, there were men, women and children. Many people jumped into the well in the Jallianwala Bagh to escape the bullets while others were shot dead by the British troop. According to British records, a total of 379 people were killed and 1,200 people were wounded. But other sources put the number of dead people at 1,000.

PM Modi’s Will Address The Nation On COVID-19 Outbreak

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will discuss the coronavirus outbreak and the steps taken to combat its further spread during his address to the nation at 8 pm today. He took the decision after chairing a high-level meeting to review the efforts to contain COVID-19.

India has over 150 coronavirus cases and three deaths – Delhi, Mumbai and Karnataka. The government has decided to spread awareness about the issue and sensitize the people.

Result of the meeting

The participants discussed ways to strengthen the preparedness to battle the outbreak. It also included increasing the testing facilities. The government is seriously considering involving private laboratories in its efforts. The Health Ministry said that the situation was evolving and that the government was ready for every eventuality.

Indian Council for Medical Research (ICRM) is the nodal agency responsible for monitoring the preparedness for battling COVID-19. It has been directed to look for ways to involve private laboratories for boosting testing facilities.

Also, the government is trying to spread awareness in public and educate them about advantages social distancing in fighting with coronavirus. It is the only way of breaking the viral chain of transmission.

Various state governments have cancelled big ticket events including IPL; shut educational institutions, malls and multiplexes and banned big gatherings to initiate social distancing. The PM encouraged people to share inspiring stories of women under hashtag #SheInspiredUs. These stories would be part of Women’s Day campaign of the PM and the selected entries will be given an opportunity to take over Modi’s Twitter account.

On Women’s Day, PM Modi will feature inspiring stories of women on Women’s Day. He said that these stories would ignite motivation in millions. He urged women to come forward and share their stories. With this tweet, he put a full stop to all speculations that were doing round since Monday when the PM Modi revealed his desire to give away all his social media accounts.

On Monday, the PM said that he was thinking of giving up his social media accounts. He said that he will quit from Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube platforms. But on Tuesday, he said that he will give away his social media to women whose lives are inspiring.

Highlights Of The Grand Republic Day parade 2020

India celebrated the 71st Republic Day on 26th January with a grand parade on Rajpath. And it was a 90-minute display of military might, cultural diversity and socio-economic progress of the country. The chief guest of today’s parade was Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro. The ceremony started with PM Narendra Modi paying tribute to soldiers at the National War Memorial.

Republic Day 2020 highlights

• The armed forces of the nation and their armaments were at the centre-stage of the grand parade.

• A total of 16 marching contingents including National Cadet Corps and National Service Scheme took part in the parade.

• For the second consecutive year, a woman officer Captain Tania Sher Gill of the Corps of Signals led an all-male contingent.

• The 61st Cavalry, the only active horse cavalry regiment in the world also took part in the parade. Raised in 1953, the cavalry was in the uniform of the erstwhile Gwalior Lancers.

• The Air Force contingent had 144 air warriors with a tableau showcasing scaled-down models of newly-acquired fighter jet Rafael and indigenous Tejas aircraft and the Light Combat Helicopter and Akash and Astra missile systems.

• The naval contingent was comprised of 144 young sailors and equipment like the Boeing P81 Long Range Maritime Petrol aircraft, the Kolkata Class Destroyer and the Kalvari Class submarine.

• DRDO marching contingent displayed the unique anti-satellite weapon Mission Shakti that can bring down hostile satellites.

• 21 women bikers of CRPF on five bikes performed daredevil stunts in the parade.

Mamata Banerjee Will Meet PM Modi In Kolkata Today

PM Narendra Modi is likely to share stage with the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during his two-day visit to Kolkata. He’s in Kolkata for inaugurations and celebrations.

PM in Kolkata

PM Modi will first inaugurate the four recently refurbished heritage buildings of Kolkata – Currency Building, Belvedere House, Metcalfe House and a Victoria Memorial Hall. The event is scheduled for today at 5:30 pm at the Old Currency building.

At 7 pm, the PM would attend the celebrations of 150 years of the Kolkata Port Trust on the banks of river Hooghly. Ms. Banerjee has been invited for the function. At the function, Modi will felicitate two 100-year old Kolkata Port Trust pensioners – Nagina Bhagat (105) and Naresh Chandra Chakraborty (100). Also, he will give Rs. 501 crores to meet the deficit pension fund of retired and existing employees of the Kolkata Port Trust that is the oldest operational port trust in India.

In the evening, Modi could take a naval boat from Kolkata to Belur to visit the headquarters of the Ramakrishna Mission.

On Sunday, the PM will inaugurate a Kaushal Vikas Kendra and Pritilata Chhatri Avas for 200 Tribal girl students in the Sunderbans. Also listed is the inauguration of the up-gradation of a ship repair facility at Haldia. The upgraded infrastructure includes a berth for smooth cargo movement and mechanization.

Kashmir Is A Bilateral Issue Admits Trump

The US administration has switched into damage control mode after Trump’s remarks that PM Narendra Modi asked him to mediate between India and Pakistan. But the US administration reaffirmed that Kashmir is a bilateral issue to be resolved by India and Pakistan.

A State Department Spokesperson said that Kashmir was a bilateral issue for both parties to discuss and that Trump administration welcomed Pakistan and India sitting down and the Unite States stood ready to assist.

Indian stand

India has categorically rejected Trump’s claim that PM Narendra Modi sought his meditation to resolve Kashmir issue. According to Trump, PM Narendra Modi asked Trump to mediate on the sidelines of G20 summit in Osaka, Japan.

Pakistan stand

PM Imran Khan welcomed the remarks by Trump saying that Trump would have payers of Pakistani people if he can mediate and resolve the issue.

US stand

The Trump administration is busy containing the issue that is spiraling into a political crisis. India is clear on its stand that PM Narendra Modi request no mediation and that Kashmir is a bilateral issue. The US administration is pressing for the view that what Trump offered is a wish to resolve the Kashmir and other issues as early as possible.
