UAE Honours PM Modi With Order of Zayed Despite Objections From Pakistan

UAE will honour Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi with “Order of Zayed”, the highest civilian award of the country. PM Modi is on three-nation visit – France, UAE and Bahrain. He reached UAE on Friday.

Order of Zyaed

Named after the founding father of Islamic state Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Order of Zyaed has a special significance especially when the Pakistan is trying to garner support of Islamic countries against India. The award is conferred on the birth centenary of Sheikh Zayed.

UAE on Kashmir

Abu Dhabi becomes the first Islamic country to honour PM Modi after Indian government scrapped Article 370 and 35A. UAE termed Article 370 as an internal matter of India. It also said that the step was aimed at bringing equality in the region.

Narendra Modi reached UAE in his second leg of the three-nation visit and held bilateral talks with the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on regional and international issues. The talks are aimed at deepening relations between the two countries. It is the first engagement of India with UAE after the Indian government reorganized the state of Jammu and Kashmir. PM Modi last visited UAE in February 2018 as the Chief Guest at the World Government Summit.

Pakistan’s rhetoric

Pakistan PM Imran Khan has been urging the world leaders especially the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to boycott India at world forums to force it to undo the Article 370.
