Music Composer And Singer Bappi Lahiri Dies At 69

Music composer Bappi Lahiri or Bappi Da as he was fondly called in Bollywood breathed his last in a Mumbai hospital last night. He was 69. His cremation will take place tomorrow after the arrival of his son Bappa from the US.

According to sources, the ailing composer was battling multiple health issues in a hospital for the past month but was discharged on Monday. But his health started deteriorating late last night and the family took Bappi Da to CitiCare hospital on the advice of a local doctor. Dr Deepak Namjoshi, director of the CitiCare hospital said that Bappi Da’s condtion wasn’t when he was brought to the hospital, and he died due to obstructive sleep apnea.

Bappi Da’s son was in LA in the US when the composer left the world for the heavenly abode. He is expected to arrive in Mumbai in mid-morning. The family is waiting for his arrival to cremate the mortal remains of the composer.

His real name was Alokesh and he had a brief stint in politics when he joined the BJP in 2014. He also fought Lok Sabha elections but lost to a Trinamool candidate. But he was a successful music composer and known for introducing disco in Bollywood in the 80s and 90s.
