Bill and Melinda Gates are singles now. They are ending their 27 years of marriage after a great deal of thought. But it would be an amicable divorce as both will work together on the philanthropic projects they have started.

What was that great deal of thought?

The two met in New York in 1980 when Melinda was a manager in Microsoft. Their relationship flourished and they decided to tie the knot in a private ceremony in Hawaii. They raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world.

Melinda said during a Salesforce event in 2016 that they fell in love with everything they saw that didn’t mean that they fell in love with people. She went on disclosing her personal life by saying that they were asking questions to themselves.

The couple filled a marriage questionnaire later in the trip. Based on their answers, they decided that their resources from Microsoft should go back to society. She said that that was an easy discussion and they thought that would be later in their lives when they got to do that.

Microsoft announced that its co-founder Bill Gates has left its board of directors. The 64-year-old Gates has already stopped his activities in day-to-day operations of the company for more than a decade. But on Friday, he officially resigned from Microsoft to devote more time to philanthropy.

Gates and his wife, Melinda has launched a foundation. And he wants to devote more time to the philanthropy work. He was in the board of directors of Microsoft until early in 2014 but now he has completely discharged himself of his duties.

In 2000, Gates relinquished the post of CEO in the favor of Steve Balmer to find more time for his charitable foundation. In 2014, when Satya Nadella became third CEO of Microsoft, Gates resigned from the post of chairman.

Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos is no longer the riches man on the earth. He lost the title of being the wealthiest person of the world to Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates whose current worth is $105.7 billion.

Big loss to Amazon and Jeff Bezos

On Thursday, Amazon reported 7% fall in its shares after the after-hours trading. It cost Jeff Bezos $103.9 billion and his title of the richest man on the earth. He earlier broke the 24-year run of Bill Gates for the top position in 2018 when he was declared as the first man with a net worth of $160 billion. 

According to Forbes, Amazon reported a 26% drop in net income in its third-quarter results. But it was its first profit decline since 2017. Amazon shares dropped to $1,624 per share that is nearly 9% drop in after-hours trading.

It was in 1997 when for the first time Jeff Bezos entered The Forbes 400 list of wealthiest Americans. It happened a year after Amazon went public. At that time, its net worth was $1.6 billion.
