A 6.3 Earthquake 450 KM From India Hit Delhi And Punjab

Delhi and surrounding areas felt strong tremors of earthquake at 10:31 IST on Friday. The tremors were so strong that they made people step out of their homes but no loss of life or property was reported.

Where was the epicenter of the earthquake?

The National Center of Seismology of India said in its bulletin that the epicenter of the earthquake was 450 km from Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir. It was in Tajikistan. It was a 6.3 magnitude quake and it occurred at a depth of 74 km from the surface.

Strong tremors in Delhi

The strong earthquake sent strong shock tremors to North India. In Delhi, people felt the tremors for several seconds. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted that earthquake tremors felt in Delhi and that he was praying for safety of Delhi people.

Tremors felt in Punjab

The strong tremors prompted people to rush out of their homes in Amritsar and other parts of Punjab. The shock waves were so strong that Chief Minister Amarinder Singh had to spoke to the police commissioner to inquire about safety of people, said CM’s spokesperson.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the AamAadmi Party (AAP) chief on Twitter but he couldn’t attend the ceremony. Arvind Kejriwal invited PM for the oath-taking ceremony and Modi responded positively to this warm invitation.

Arvind Kejriwal took oath with six ministers on Sunday at a mega ceremony at Ramlila Maidan. He sent invites to the PM, Delhi MPs and elected BJP MLAs but none attended the ceremony. PM Modi was in his constituency for inauguration of various projects.

Third Bullet Fired In Four Days At Anti-CAA Protest Site At Jamila Millia University

The Jamia Coordination Committee of Jamia Millia Islamia University said that a shot was fired outside the Gate No. 5 of the university but no one was injured. It was third incident in four days of firing at an anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) protest in the capital.

Students called the police

It was told that someone fired a shot at the university gate from Shaheen Bagh, 2 km away from the university. The police have recorded statements and FIR registered on the basis of statements. A team was also sent to the spot to collect CCTV footage from Gate No. 5 and 7. Senior police officer Jagdish Yadav assured of action.

Different versions of the incident

The police searched the area but found no evidence of firing like empty bullet shells. Also, some people said that the miscreants were riding a scooter while others claimed that the shooters were in a four-wheeler. Also, the shooter was heard saying “Humare desh mein sirf Hinduon ki chalegi aur kisi ki nahi (in our country only Hindus will prevail).” Also, some people said that he came in an auto.

Kejriwal slammed Amit Shah

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal criticized Union Home Minister Amit Shah for deteriorating law and order situation in the capital. He said that bullets were fired in broad daylight and there was a need to fix the law and order issue. Hours before the incident, the Election Commission removed the Deputy Police Commission (DCP) of south-east Delhi, Chinmoy Biswal after two firing incidents at anti-CAA protest sites.
