District Varanasi Judge To Take Decision On Gyanvapi Mosque Case Today

The Varanasi court will decide whether the right to worship inside the city’s Gyanvapi mosque is “maintainable” or not. Gyanvapi mosque is located next to the world-renowned Kashi Viswanath temple and five Hindu women have sought the right to worship inside the mosque.

  1. The order on whether the case by the women to worship inside the mosque should be heard or it will cease to have any legal standing could be announced today. District judge A.K. Vishvesha will pronounce the order.
  2. The case was earlier heard in a lower court but was transferred to the Varanasi district court by a Supreme Court order in May.
  3. Keeping the complexity and sensitivity of the matter in view, the Supreme Court ordered that the civil suit before the civil judge in Varanasi should be heard before a senior and experienced judicial offer of the UP judicial service.
