Cops Detain Shaheen Bagh Protestors Amid Delhi Lockdown

After 101 days of sin-in protest, Shaheen Bagh in Delhi was cleared of the protestors. It was heart of protest against Citizenship (Amendment) Act of CAA. Delhi Police reached Shaheen Bagh at around 7 am and cleared the site by arresting the remaining protestors.

Delhi imposes Section 144 over COVID-19

Following the orders of banning large gatherings in the capital, cops asked the Shaheen Bagh protestors to leave the site but they refused. Finally, the cops have to use force and detain nine people including six women and three men to clear the site. Soon the civic body will clean up the protest site. Also, the Jaffrabad and Turkman Gate sites were cleared using force.

Delhi reports 30 coronavirus cases

Following the orders of countrywide restrictions in the wake of rising coronavirus cases, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced a lockdown on the city. Delhi has recorded 30 COVID-19 cases and one death. It has sealed borders with adjoining states; public transport is shut and shops closed except those that sell essential goods. The country has recorded 470 cases and nine people have died so far.

Clearing Shaheen Bagh protests

CAA protesters at the ShaheenBgh were urged to call off their agitation on December 15 but they refused to obey the orders. They said that the sit-in would continue with necessary precautions. They simply reduced the size of the gathering. Shaheen Bagh protests had made international headlines due to CAA protest. Also, they were attacked several times before.

AAP Threatens To Sue The Office That Claimed Shaheen Bagh Shooter Was An AAP Member

BJP and AAP traded charges after the Shaheen Bagh shooter was seen with senior AamAadmi Party leaders in a picture. The BJP said that it was the proof of ruling party’s complicity in the protest against CAA. But AAP said that the police was acting under the guidance of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Controversial picture of Shaheen Bagh shooter

The photograph was found in the phone of Kapil Gujjar (25). He was seen standing with Sanjay Singh and Aatishi Singh of AAP. The police said that photographs could be a year back when he joined AAP with his father. But the police were trying to find the exact date of the photos.

Sanjay Singh of AAP said that the party would send a legal notice to the officer that made the complaint. Also, the AAP would complain the matter to EC. He even said that the DCP Rajesh Deo was acting on the behalf of BJP and that he should wear a lotus.

Sanjay Singh produced pictures of PM Modi standing with AsaramBapu and Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar with Ram Rahim. He said that just like these pictures don’t prove complicity of BJP leaders with criminals, the picture of the Shaheen Bagh shooter also proved nothing.

On Saturday, Kapil Gujjar fired a shot in the air shouting “Jai Sri Ram”and later try to flee when his gun jammed. But he was apprehended by the police party present at the site.

Delhi L-G Asks For Making Necessary Arrangements For Security Of Protestors And Voters At Shaheen Bagh

The Lt. Governor asked police to boost security around Shaheen Bagh area after a man fired two rounds in air at the protestors. The police would put up more barricades to prevent outsiders from creating trouble at the protest site.

Since December 15, hundreds of people including men and women have been staging a sit-in protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC) at the Shaheen Bagh.

But the protest came into news when a man brandished a pistol to the protestors and fired two rounds in air. The police present at the site swung into action and apprehended the shooter.

Enhanced security for Shaheen Bagh protestors

The police have been asked to keep a close watch over the people visiting the Shaheen Bagh area. There would be barricades to prevent people from approaching the protest site and those that want to visit the site would be frisked. Also, the police would take help of locals to prevent any untoward incident from happening. The securing arrangements have been enhanced in the wake of Delhi elections on February 8.

The police were asked to make necessary arrangements for smooth access for all sections of society to exercise their franchise on February 8. The police are responsible for instilling confidence in the voters and general public through effective measures taken for public security.
