Thumb Injury Sends Shikhar Dhawan Out Of World Cup 2019

Shikhar Dhawan injured his thump while playing against Australia in the previous match at The Oval on Sunday. He did a huge job making 117 off 109 balls despite his injury but didn’t field at all during Australia’s batting.

Hairline fracture

Shikhar Dhawan was on 24 in the 9th over of the match when a bouncer by Nathan Coulter hit him on the left thumb. The hit was so hard that it fractured his thumb but Dhawan kept playing and scored a century for the team. Lately he was seen treating his injured thumb with an ice pack in the rest room.

Though Dhawan’s century put India at a winning position but it costed the team dearly. Shikhar Dhawan is diagnosed with a hairline fracture on the left-hand thumb and he’s advised rest for three weeks. Dhawan also didn’t travel to Nottingham where India would take on New Zealand on Thursday.

Replacement for team India

Team India is now allowed to find a replacement for its star player Shikhar Dhawan. And the names doing round for his replacement are of Rishabh Pant, Ambati Rayudu and Shreyas Iyer.

In the absence of Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul could come for opening but India has to find a replacement to send at no. 4 position that would become vacant with KL Rahul moving to no. 1 position.
