WHO Gives 5 Tips For Food Safety On World Food Safety Day

Today is World Food Safety Day and on this day, the World Health Organization has asked people to practice food safety that is the prime reason for over 200 diseases. 1 in 10 people fall ill due to unsafe food and around 4,20,000 people die every year due to contaminated food.

Here’re five tips to practice food safety

  1. Cleanliness

Ensure cleanliness and hygiene in your kitchen. Always wash hands before going to cook your meals.

  • Keep food in separate containers

Use separate containers for keeping raw and cooked food. In this way, you can prevent contamination of either of the two food items.

  • Cook thoroughly

It is only a thoroughly cooked food that is 100% safe and hygienic. You should allow raw food to cook thoroughly so that there remains no germs or bacteria.

  • Store food at optimal temperature

Each type of food item requires a specific environment for survival. You should make sure that food at your home is preserved at the right temperature.

  • Use safe water and ingredients

Food items need to be cleaned in water but the water has to be pure. Also, you should use the raw material that is safe to use.

In addition to the guidelines suggested by WHO, you can also follow tips for food safety tweeted by the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO). Food safety begins at the farm and concludes with food consumption. And it is important to practice food safety at each step of the process.
