Before Holi, demand for herbal colours has increased in city markets. According to Sadar Bazar traders, 80% of the demand constitutes herbal and flower colours. But harmful dyes containing chemicals are also being sold in the market.

Harmful effect of synthetic colours

• Green colour made of copper sulphate can cause eye problems like allergy, swelling and light problems.

• Silver colour is made of aluminium bromide that can cause skin cancer. But this colour is more popular these days.

• Red colour could contain mercury that can also cause skin cancer.

• Many popular colours have heavy metals like silica lead that causes skin allergies and eczema problems.

People are advised to avoid synthetic colours and use only herbal colours that are 100% natural and safe. Also, there is warning for coronavirus. Playing Holi in groups could be dangerous as coronavirus spreads through human contacts.

Medical advice by doctors and others

• Dr Kabir Sardana Dermatologist advised not to use China made colours in any situation. He urged to play Holi without colours and avoid getting wet.

• Dr Ajay Lekhi, former president of Delhi Medical Association, said that people could play Holi only with herbal colours, sandalwood and turmeric.

• Actor Sandeep Mohan said that harmful colours always damage the skin. People should avoid playing Holi with colours. He suggested herbal colours for Holi.

Traders said that herbal colours are more in demand. People are showing interest in natural colours. They further said that orange and yellow colours were more in demand.

Use Gaukastha For Ecofriendly Holika Dahan

This Holi on Rangotsav at most places gaukastha will be used for Holika Dahan. Raipur Municipal Corporation operated Bhatagaon Gowthan will provide wood dung and condens made of cow dung for burning.

Thousands of Holikas at residences of several ministers and in all the zones of the municipal corporation will use gowkastha for dahan. According to Ritesh Agarwal, director of “Ek Pahal”, a social organization that is running Bhatagaon Gaukastha, the wood made of cow dung is environment friendly. People can contact the organization on 84618-83203 for gowkastha. Ritesh urged people not to cut green trees for Holika dahan and use gaukastha instead.

Advantages of gowkastha

Made of cow dung, the gaukastha burns faster than the wood and the remaining ash can be scattered on the ground. The ash made of gaukastha increases fertility hence no harm in mixing it with the soil. Also, it works as a natural pesticide. It is dual advantage of using gaukastha.

Ritesh Agarwal appealed to all residents of Raipur to use gaukastha for Holika dahan. It is eco-friendly and good for soil. Also, it is easily available for use. Interested people can contact the organization for gaukastha and get the required amount gaukastha for Holika dahan.

Ritesh Agarwal also appealed to not disrupt the traffic for Holika dahan and nor damage the concrete roads. Burning Holika in the midst of road will block free flow of traffic. Also, it will do irreparable damage to the concrete road.

Shiva Devotees Would Do Jalabhishek Of Lord Shiva On Mahashivratri

On the occasion of Mahashivratri, the Shiva devotees will perform jalabhishek at Shivalayas on Friday. The devotees had been decorating Shiva temples till late evening on Thursday. Also, the police and administration were busy making extensive security arrangements for the devotees.

Mahashivratri celebrations

• A batch of devotees from various districts of Gazipur will leave for Ganges to fill the holy water. They will go on foot and bring water for jalabhishek of Lord Shiva in Shiva temples on Mahashivratri.

• Special arrangements for Mahashivratri have been made at Shitala Mata Dham, Mathia Tola Shivala, Shiva temple at Bheeti, Shiva temple at Katuapura, Shiva temple at Azamgarh Mor, Shiv temple at District Hospital, Brahmasthan, Roadways Shiv temple, including Sindhi Baba Ki Kuti.

• Bhajan kirtan of Lord Shiva started on Thursday itself at various Shiva temples including Madhuban’sShivpurPanti, Kopaganj andLarodonwar.

• The temples are beautifully decorated with electric lights and religious programs organized for devotees.

• At major Shiva temples, the decoration of Lord Shiva would be done with flowers and the consecration would be with milk and holy water from Ganga.

• The Shiva temples would reverberate with chanting of Shiv mantras har-har-Mahadev throughout the day.

Mahashivratri is an annual festival that comes in the month of February. Devotees prepare for this festival all the year. They observe day long fast and offer jalabhishek to the Lord Shiva. The fasting ends with offering evening puja after sunset.

Chandra Grahan 2020: The First Lunar Eclipse On January 10 Would Be A Fractured Eclipse

The first lunar eclipse of 2020 will be on 10th January. It would be a sub-shadow eclipse with a short duration of 4 hours. Lunar eclipse is divided into three broad categories – partial, full and fragmentary or sub-shadow. The sub-shadow lunar eclipse is weaker in comparison to the other two.

Full lunar eclipse: The earth comes between the sun and the moon and blocks the light going to the moon. In other words, it covers the moon with its shadow.

Partial lunar eclipse: Shadow of the earth covers some parts of the moon. The sunlight doesn’t reach the covered parts.

Sub-shadow lunar eclipse: The moon gets covered under its own shadow and for this reason, this lunar eclipse remains weaker in comparison to others.

Lunar eclipse timing in India

The eclipse would start at 10:36 pm on January 10 and reach its midway at 12:40 am and will complete on 2:44 am. The total length of this astronomical event will be a little over 4 hours.

Lunar eclipse in 2020

The first lunar eclipse of 2020 would be on January 10; the second lunar eclipse would happen from June 5 to June 6 and the third lunar eclipse will fall between July 5 to July 6. The fourth and the last lunar eclipse of 2020 will be on 30 November.

None of the 2020 lunar eclipse would be full or partial. And Sutakisn’t applied to fractured eclipse because here the moon isn’t covered with the earth’s shadow.

Gurudwara Nankana Sahib Attacked And Anti-Sikhism Slogans Shouted In Pakistan

Gurudwara Nankana Sahib in Pakistan came under attack on Friday. According to initial reports, hundreds of angry people surrounded the iconic gurudwara and started pelting stones at the devotees inside. Nankana Sahib was the birthplace of Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism.

Attack on Gurudwara Nankana Sahib

It was said that the group attacking the gurudwara was led by a family whose boy abducted the daughter of a gurudwara official from her home and forcibly converted her to Islam. Jagjit Kaur was abducted from her home in Nankana Sahib in August last year.

Another report told that the scuffle was the result of a minor altercation between two Muslim groups in the city of Nankana Sahib. It happened at a tea-stall but the district administration swung into action and controlled the situation.

India condemns the incident

Punjab CM Amarinder Singh appealed Pakistan PM Imran Khan to intervene and assure the safety of the devotees stuck inside the iconic gurudwara. Akali Dal MLA Manjinder Singh Sirsa also tweeted to condemn the wanton act of destruction.

Pakistan PM Imran Khan replied

In response to the tweets of Indian leaders, Pak PM tweeted a video alleged to be of Indian police attacking Muslims. But on checking, the video was found to be of Bangladesh and was shot in 2013. The Pak PM wasted no time in deleting the tweets.

Pak Foreign Office statement

The authorities in Punjab province released a midnight statement to assure the world community that the gurudwara remained unchanged and undamaged in the attack.
