ICC World Test Championship: India Lost Its First Match By 10 Wickets

India lost the first Test of the two-match series with New Zealand on Monday. It was the first match of the ICC World Test Championship. It is the first in the series and 100th Test victory for the Kiwis.

• It was the first time that India lost a match in ICC World Test Championship.

Barcelona’s Contract With Braithwaite Raises Eyebrows In The Football World

FC Barcelona’s signing of Martin Braithwaite is the most unlikely event of the European football season. On Thursday, Barcelona signed the 20-year old Danish forward from La Liga rivals Leganes.

Barcelona triggered a $19.4 million release clause in the Leganes contract of Braithwaite to sign the player. But it also put $324 million release clause on his Barcelona contract. The release clause is used to discourage rival teams from approaching players. But the clause inserted by Barcelona is the highest by any Spanish club.

Special emergency dispensation for Barcelona

Spanish football bosses gave special emergency dispensation to Barcelona for finding a replacement of forward Ousmane Dembele when he took six-moths leave due to a hamstring injury. The emergency window was provided for January.

But Leganes are opposing this transfer because the club loses one of the most important players. According to Leganes director general Martin Ortega, they were in a situation of serious damage.

Martin Braithwaite new contract

The player has signed four-year deal with FC Barcelona. He will play until 2024. But it isn’t the first time that Braithwaite signed a deal. He had been previously associated with Esbjerg in his Denmark, French club Toulouse and Middlesbrough in England.

Braithwaite has been a fantastic player throughout his career as he scored six goals in 24 league appearances for Leganes. Also, he played 39 matches for the Denmark national team.

FC Barcelona presently stands second in the La Liga table. It would play its next match with Eibar on Saturday, February 22.

Putting their UEFA woes behind, Manchester City registered first win with a 2-0 score on West Ham on Wednesday night. The Manchester City has recently been excluded from the Champions League for two years from 2020-21 to 22 for not following financial fair play regulations.

On the 29th minute of the game, Rodri made the first goal and put Manchester City ahead in the game. Soon Kevin De Bruyne added the second goal and sealed the win for the home team. But the fans had the UEFA ban in mind.

It was the first of match of Manchester City after receiving UEFA notice for getting banned from Champions League for two years. They even sung anti-UEFA chants during the match. The over-enthusiastic fans even unfurled a “UEFA Cartel” banner in the stadium. But Pep Guardiola had different views on the UEFA ruling.

IPL 2020: Mumbai Indians, CSK And Others Revealed Their Fixtures But Rajasthan Royals Withheld The Details

The first fixture of the 13th IPL edition would be as scheduled on March 29 and the last league fixture would be on May 17. Mumbai Indians will play with three-times champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

The defending champion Mumbai Indians took to Twitter to announce their schedule ahead of the tournament. On Sunday, it disclosed that it was happy to play the opening fixture of the tournament. Also, it was traveling to Bengaluru to face challenge from the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

Fresh with a new logo, RCB will kickstart their campaign against Kolkata Night Riders (KKR) at M Chinnaswamy Stadium. KKR is two-time title holder.

But Sunrises Hyderabad (SRH) were the first to among the participants to reveal their home and away fixtures. The 2016 champion SRH will start their campaign against Mumbai Indians that are the defending champions on April 1.

Rajasthan Royals will meet CSK in the first home game of CSK led by former India captain MS Dhoni. But Rajasthan Royals have still not unveiled their schedule. It is learnt that they would reveal their details only after an official announcement from the board.

IPL 2020: Confusion Over Start Date Deepens

The BCCI President Sourav Ganguli confirmed that start date of the 13th edition of the cash-rich T20 league would be March 29 and that there would be fewer double-headers this season. But IPL start could be delayed a little.

Confusion over IPL start date

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is going to conduct its board meeting on March 29 in Dubai. It is the date when IPL will take off in India. BCCI tried to convince ICC shit its board meeting as both are big events and their dates are clashing. But ICC turned down the request of shifting its board meeting.

The problem with BCCI is that many of is members would be busy attending the important board meeting on the start date of the IPL. So, BCCI is left with no option other than to delay IPL matches.

ICC made a case

International Cricket Council will hold a series of meetings from March 27-29 and the dates for these meetings had been fixed in August 2019. Also, the concerned persons were informed about the meetings in advance. Since preparations have been made, there is little chances of ICC accepting BCCI’s request of change of dates.

Options for BCCI

Sources told that ICC dates were always announced in advance so no ground for changing dates now. BCCI has also withheld schedule of the tournament that is expected to start on March 29 in Guwahati. The ICC has even fixed dates for next conference. It will meet on July 17 and 18 this year in Cape Town.

And it has found Manchester City 30 million euros ($32.5 million) for failing to meet the regulations and not cooperating with the investigators. And this punishment could have far reaching consequences for the balance sheet of Manchester City.

The worth of Champions League is worth about $100 million for a club but missing the championship could have devastating effects on career decisions of top players and potential signings with big brands.

Ban would take affect from next year

Manchester City is kept free from the ban for this year. It will play with Real Madrid on February 26 in the first-part of the home-and-home series in the round 16 of the championship.

IPL 2020: Royal Challengers Bangalore To Get A New Name And Logo

Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is going to change its name ahead of Indian Premier League 2020 season. Their social media activity gave a hint regarding change of name before start of IPL 2020. An important announcement regarding change of name could be made on February 16.

On Tuesday, RCB removed pictures from Twitter, Instagram and Facebook accounts. Also, it changed the name to Royal Challengers. The Hindustan Times reported that RCB could come up with a new name and logo and an announcement regarding the same could be made on February 16.

According to reports, a faction of RCB fans wants to change Bangalore as it is the old name of Silicon Valley. After some discussions, the RCB agreed to change Bangalore to Bengaluru before the start of IPL 2020.

Mumbai Indians (MI)bagged sponsorship contract worth INR 100 crore in two deals with Marriot Bonvoy and Astral Pipes. Owned by leading businessman Mukesh Ambani, Mumbai Indians is the four-time champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Spokesperson of Mumbai Indians confirmed that the team has managed to get the deal. With this deal, MI has become the first Indian sports franchise to clinch one billion deal. While not much info is revealed about the deal, the spokesperson only said that the deal with Marriot Bonvoy is worth INR 30 crore. The company would have its logo on the right side of the jersey. Astral Pipes would have their logo on the non-leading arm of the jersey.

Marriot Bonvoy has earlier bean associated with Manchester United, Formula One, Bayern Munich, NFL and the NBA but it is for the first time that the brand is investing on an Indian sports franchise.

It is the consistence performance of MI that keeps the team on top of the chart for the fourth consecutive season, according to the findings of Duff & Phelps.

Last year, MI got three-year sponsorship worth INR 75 crore from Samsung. Other sponsors of the team were Colors (back of jersey), Reliance Jio (lead arm), Sharp (back of helmet), Usha International (front of the helmet), Burger King and William Lawson (trouser).

U-19 World Cup Final: Bangladesh Beat India In A Dramatic Rain-Washed Victory

Bangladesh cricket team beat India in the U-19 World Cup final in a dramatic rain-washed match in Potchefstroom. It was the maiden Under-19 title for Bangladesh. Akbar Ali, captain of Bangladesh cricket team, led his team to victory.

A brief flurry of rain came as a big respite for Bangladesh team that was limping to target at 163 for 7 wickets. When the rain stopped, the score was adjusted to 172 from 46 overs under DLS. Bangladesh needed only 7 runs in 30 balls and it was an easy target for Bangladesh.

Indian players shined

Opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal made highest 88 runs in 121 balls. The 18-year old left-handed batsman from Uttar Pradesh was stand-out batsman for the defending champion. He made three 50s and one century in the competition. His total score of 400 runs and average of 133.33 runs made him Player of the Tournament. Avishek Das the most successful bowler. He took 3 wickets for 40 runs.

Despite getting a good start by Parvez Hossain Emon and Tanzid Hasan, Bangladesh can’t collect runs and keep losing wickets in search of runs. But their captain and the rain made it favourable for Bangladesh.
