Left Arm Spinner Shahbaz Nadeem Called Up To India’s Test Squad For Test Match Against South Africa

Shahbaz Nadeem would made his test debut in the final test against South Africa in Ranchi. He was handed his debut on Saturday. He was called to join India’s Test squad on the eve of third and final test match with South Africa.

Who is Shahbaz Nadeem?

He’s a 30-year old left arm spinner and a consistent performer in the domestic cricket as well as India A tours. But he has been on the periphery of a call-up for the for the past few seasons despite being a performer.

Shahbaz Nadeem plays domestic cricket for Jharkhand and the good thing is that he’ll make his test debut in JSCA Stadium that is his home ground. His name was doing rounds for selection in Indian team since 2015-16 Ranji Trophy season.

BCCI To Elect Sourav Ganguly President In Mumbai AGM On October 23

Sourav Ganguly is set to become BCCI president after the Committee of Administrators ends its 33-month rule post Lodha Committee reforms. His name cropped up in an informal meeting of all the affiliated units of the BCCI. The officials met to finalized names of their new-office bearers.

When would BCCI hold AGM?

The BCCI officials want to end the 33-month rule of Committee of Administrators by having the AGM as soon as possible. But five state units – Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Manipur – are barred from the AGM. These state units are contemplating moving to court. The barred state units won’t be allowed to participate and vote in the AGM. The Committee of Administrators took the strong action to bar state units for non-compliance in their amended constitution. The BCCI AGM is scheduled in Mumbai on October 23.

Mayank Agarwal And Cheteshwar Pujara Polled In 100-Runs After Early Dismissal Of Rohit Sharma In 2nd Test Day 1 Match

The opening-day of 2nd Test between India and South Africa saw early dismissal of Rohit Sharma but Mayank Agarwal and CheteshwarPujara put India in a dominant position by putting in 100-runs together. South Africa also made a change in bowling order. It brought spinners at both the ends.

Highlights of the match

Playing at 37, CheteshwarPujara went ahead for a big one into the mid-wicket stands. He took a lose ball by SenuranMuthuswany to hit a six.

Captain Faf du Plessis brought Anrich Nortje to test the strength of Mayank Agarwal in facing bouncers. But Mayank hit back-to-back boundaries and put Indian score over 100-runs.

Anrich Nortje and Keshav Maharaj brought South Africa back to game with a couple of tight overs but this success was short-lived as soon as Pujara pick up a boundary and took India past the 90-run mark.

Anrich Nortje tried hard to break the 2nd wicket partnership of Indian batsmen. He wanted to take advantage of Mayank’s weakness against short-pitched balls.

Mayank Agarwal made his 4th half-century in Test Cricket. This Karnataka batsman proved cricket after taking lead from Rohit Sharma. Early dismissal of Rohit made the South African team jubilant but Mayank who already had a double-hundred in Vizag test gave a strong base to Indian team.

The second-wicket batsmen did a great job together by keeping the bowlers at a bay. Post lunch, they started looking for some bad balls to play boundaries to add more runs to the Indian score.

India vs South Africa Women ODI Cricket: Mithali Raj Says High Score Necessary To Popularize Women Cricket In India

Indian cricket team of women suffered a blow just before the first One Day International (ODI) against South Africa. A key player of the team was retired hurt and ruled out of the series. But the good thing is that the Indian skipper is in high spirits to popularize women’s cricket in India.

Smriti Mandhana retired hurt

A fracture in her right toe made Smriti Mandhana unfit for playing the series. She was ruled out of the entire series but a final call on her ouster would be taken only after an assessment by physios in NCA. She needs an MRI but that is possible only after the swelling is controlled.

The head coach is still uncertain whether Smriti would be able to play but the coach would take a decision only after receiving a detailed medical report from physios. She said that it was difficult to give any timeline for her recovery.

India Scored 91 At Lunch On Day 1 Of 1st Test With South African At Visakhapatnam

Virat Kohli decided to bat first and his decision was proved wise as India scored 91 runs without losing any wicket in the first day of the first test match at Visakhapatnam with South Africa.

India chooses to bat

Both the openers of Indian cricket team Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal played well scoring 50 and 39 runs respectively. Skipper Virat Kohli took the decision of batting first without any hesitation despite knowing that South Africa has a strong bowling line. Confident of taking a lead, he allowed his opening batsmen to play freely and score as much as they can.

South African bowlers troubled India

There were some anxious moments in the first half of the match with South African spinners Kagiso Rabada and Vernon Philander almost tied the Indian batsmen on the pitch. But then the ball was new. Indian batsmen remained defensive until they got hold of the ball.

Rohit Sharma scored 50

Rohit displayed beautiful foot movement in the second half of the match. He hit a couple of sixers on the spinning ball and scored his 50 runs. It was his 11th 50 and first as an opener.

Mayank Agarwal not-out at 39

His role was more supportive than aggressive. He let Rohit Sharma to charge while baffling the bowlers with his defensive batting style.

South African bowling

Kagiso Rabada and Vernon Philander together bowled 8 overs out of which 3 overs were maiden. They gave a total of 19 runs. Their economy was 2.25.
