T20 World Cup 2024 will start on June 1 in the US and June 2 in India. The ninth edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup will see 40 matches. Also, it is the first time in the history of the T20 World Cup that 20 teams will participate in the tournament. T20 World Cup began in 2007 and India was the first crowned champion of the tournament.

T20 World Cup 2024 League Stage

ICC has divided the 20 participating teams into four equal groups for the first stage of the tournament. Two teams from each group will qualify for the Super 8 or the second stage of the tournament. Here it is interesting to note that the Super 8 teams will be selected on their pre-determined overall ranking instead of their league positions. It will provide the teams an advantage of past performance.

The qualifying teams will be split into two groups for the Super 8 single-round robin league that will see two teams from each group qualifying for the semi-finals.

Rules for the T20 World Cup 2022 final have been revised for the Pakistan and England match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday. The rules are changed to prevent the rough weather conditions from spoiling the play. The revised conditions make sure that the match doesn’t get washed out with the rain.

Revised Playing Conditions For T20 World Cup 2022 Final
  1. Monday is the reserve day in case the match doesn’t start on the scheduled day.
  2. The Event Technical Committee (ETC) amended clause 13.7.3 of the Playing Conditions to increase the additional playing time on the reserve day to four hours from two hours, in case the match doesn’t completed in the provided time.
  3. 10 overs per side are required to enter the knockout stage and all efforts will be put to complete the match on the scheduled day even with necessary reductions of overs.
  4. The match will be played on the reserve day only when the minimum number of overs (10 overs per side) aren’t played on the scheduled day.
  5. The match will continue on the reserve day beginning at 15h00 (9:30 AM IST).
  6. An additional 30 minutes are available for Sunday and extra four hours are reserved for Monday.
  7. A Super Over will decide the match in case of a tie.
  8. If Super Over can’t be played due to rough weather conditions, Pakistan and England will be declared joint winners.

It is to be noted that weather forecasts have predicted heavy rain on Sunday but ICC wants to complete the match on Sunday or Monday, only if necessary. If nothing works, both teams will share the trophy.
