Why Can’t VK Sasikala Vote In Tamil Nadu Elections?

Former general secretary of AIADMK and a close confidante of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha, VK Sasikala won’t be able to exercise her voting rights in the assembly elections today. Her name is found to be missing from the voters’ list.

Why VK Sasikala’s name was removed from voters’ list?

VK Sasikala was a resident of Ms Jayalalitha’s Poes Garden residence before the residence was converted into a memorial. She was a voter of the Thousand Lights Assembly constituency of Chennai. But her name was found to be missing from the voters’ list just before the voting day. A senior poll officer denied any conspiracy in that. But VK Sasikala said that it was an injustice to her and that she would take legal action after discussing the matter with her counsel N Raja Senthoor Pandian.

What did VK Sasikala’s counsel say in the argument?

Mr Pandian said that he apprised the Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo of the matter. He further said that the official told him that the deadline for making additions or deleting names from the voters’ list had expired. Mr Pandian argued that why not VK Sasikala was informed about the deletion of her name from the voters’ list when all official communications were reaching her at the Parapana Agrahara Prison in Bengaluru.

Is there a conspiracy in this matter?

VK Sasikala has just come out of prison after completing her sentence in a disproportionate assets case in which J Jayalalitha was also a party. After her release, VK Sasikala she would stay away from politics.
