Observe A Minute’s Silence Today At 3:00 pm (1400 GMT) For Late Prince Philip

Queen Elizabeth II will bid a final farewell to her late husband, Prince Philip, on Saturday, in a modest state ceremony with just 30 mourners including close family members. Only Meghan will miss the ceremony due to her health condition.

Funeral ceremony of Prince Philip

Millions of people will watch the final farewell to Prince Philip behind the stately walls of the Windsor Castle, west of London, on their televisions as the pandemic restrictions won’t allow a large gathering on the ground.

Members of the armed services, Prince Philip was associated with, will line a short procession route through to Windsor’s historic St George’s Chapel. His coffin will be borne on a bespoke Land Rover hearse repainted in military green. The Land Rover was designed by Prince Philip. The whole country will observe a minute’s silence on the stroke of 3:00 pm (1400 GMT) before the funeral begins.

Who was Prince Philip?

Prince Philip was The Duke of Edinburgh but he was lovingly called “the grandfather of the nation”. He was 99 years old and was suffering from a heart ailment and infection. He spent last month in a hospital stay.

He was “strength and stay” for Queen Elizabeth II as she once called him. They were together since 1952. It was a 73-year long relationship that came to an end on April 9. His funeral ceremony will be a more modest affair but the efforts are on to make it a royal send-off like no other.
