Poonawalla’s Gilded Glamour
Created by celebrity designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee, the handcrafted printed tulle saree features intricate embroidery with silk floss thread and a long trail. The bevel beads, semi-precious stones, crystals, sequins and appliqued printed velvet pieces used for embellishment were crafted using traditional techniques by Sabyasachi’s Curiosity Art & Antiquity Project.
For dramatic effect, Poonawalla paired a hand-forged metal bustier with the gold saree. Sabyasachi collaborated with Maison Schiaparelli, an Italian brand, to design the saree.
Her Christian Louboutin shoes were styled by Anaita Shroff Adajania, eyewear designed by Anna-Karin Karlsson, and ring by Bhavya Ramesh Jewelry.
What Sabyasachi Mukherjee Said About The Saree?
The leading dress designer said that for him the saree was a truly unique and versatile garment that owns its identity even as it transcends boundaries and geographies. The designer further said he would often wonder when he would see the saree at big global fashion events like Met Gala since he was a young fashion student.
