Rafael Nadal Is Still Confident Of Winning Nitto ATP Finals After Losing To Taylor Fritz
Rafael Nadal lost the Sunday match to the inspired debutant Taylor Fritz at the Nitto ATP Finals. But the Spaniard showed no sign of panic in his post-match press conference where he told the reason for losing the match.
• Rafael Nadal suffered an abdominal tear in September and he is still recuperating from the injury
• He lost two matches in the space of 10 weeks after an injury lay-off
• The Spaniard is chasing his maiden Nitto ATP Finals this week
What Did Nadal Say In His Post-Match Press Conference?
Nadal stayed unmoved by the opening loss at the Pala Alpitour despite knowing that it was his second defeat in ten weeks. He said that tennis and the sport in general, that’s about time. He had less time than Fritz to do what he wanted to do on the ball. He felt that everything was going so fast. When that happened, normally people were under stress, and they didn’t have the time to play the kind of shot that they wanted.
Nadal had an abdominal tear during his fourth round of the US Open after which he went on an injury lay-off and lost his three-set defeat to Tommy Paul at the Rolex Paris Masters 11 days ago. The 36-year said that he acknowledged the difficulties of facing high-class opponents soon after an injury lay-off.
He said that in most of the points of the match, he was in a defensive position, and Tommy Paul was in an offensive position. That’s what happened. But every single time he came back from injury, playing against top players from the first day.
Also, Nadal was full of praise for Fritz. He said Fritz played very well. He wasn’t able to handle Fritz’s power. Things were going so quickly. Nadal will face Felix Auger-Aliassime in the race to World No. 1.
