Anil Deshmukh has been charged by former Mumbai police chief Param Bir Singh with discussing a racket of collecting ₹ 100 crore a month from Mumbai businesses during February last year. And the opposition is demanding his resignation for the same. But his party chief Sharad Pawar turned down the request for his resignation by saying that Anil Deshmukh was in hospital in February.

Anil Deshmukh released a video clearing the air about his whereabouts in February. He said that he was hospitalized for Covid-19 treatment from February 5 to 15 after which he was sent for 10-day home quarantine. Acting on his doctor’s advice, he took a flight to Mumbai to remain in quarantine. In Mumbai, he would go to the park at night to do pranayama.

He further said that he used to meet officials and policemen to get updates about the pandemic situation. He also attending meetings through video-conference to prepare for the budget session on February 28. He left home for the first time on February 28.

The former police chief has leveled serious charges of extortion with the help of a police party against the Home Minister. His name is connected to the controversial officer Sachin Waze.
