36 New MPs Will Get Luxury Duplex Flats InNorth Avenue

36 of the 17th Lok Sabha Members would get newly built four-bedroom duplex flats in North Avenue in Lutyens’ Delhi. The Central Public Works Department is expected to handover the new apartments to the Lok Sabha Secretariat by June-end.

Constructed at a cost of ₹80 crore, each flat comes complete with a fully-fitted modular kitchen and a well-furnished office area. These low-rise flats are equipped with solar panels; have LED lights; basement parking for two cars and other modern amenities. But the biggest feature is they give a panoramic view of the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Construction started with the demolition of the old flats in October 2017 and the sanctioned cost of the flats was ₹92 crore.

According to government official, old buildings in South and North Avenues would be demolished to pave way for new flats in a phased manner. The government has arranged temporary accommodations for 350 MPs till the MPs get their official residences. In the past, the government used to accommodate the MPs in five-star hotels. But the tradition has been discontinued.

The MPs-elect waiting for accommodation include ex-cricketer Gautam Gambhir, Union Ministers Ravi Shankar Prasad and Smriti Irani, Sufi singer Hans Raj Hans and Bengali actors Mimi Chakraborty and Nusrat Jahan Ruhi.
