Karnataka’s Former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa’s Granddaughter Died By Suicide
Granddaughter of Bhartiya Janta Party leader and former Chief Minister of Karnataka BS Yediyurappa, Soundarya died by suicide at her Bengaluru home on Friday. The 30-year-old doctor was found hanging in her first-floor home in Legacy Apartment.
Who Was Soundarya?
Soundarya was the daughter of Yediyurappa’s elder daughter Padmavati. She was a postgraduate in general surgery from MS Ramaiah and was married to Dr. Neeraj, a radiologist with the same hospital in 2018. They had been living in the Legacy Apartment on Cunningham Road for two years.
What Does The Investigation Say?
According to a preliminary investigation, it was a case of suicide. Soundarya was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her bedroom. The couple has a nine-month-old baby that was found sleeping in another room. Also, the police said that they didn’t find any death note from her home.
How Did It happen?
It happened around 10:30 AM on Friday when the housemaid and the nanny hired for the baby found Soundarya locked in her bedroom. They called her many times but got no response to their knocks and calls. This sparked suspicion and they called the police. Security personnel peeped inside the bedroom from an adjacent balcony and alerted the security personnel about the incident.
Dr. Neeraj was at the hospital at that time. He left the home at 8:30 AM but was called back by the nanny. By the time Dr. Neeraj reached home, the security personnel had already brought Soundarya down and were preparing to take her to hospital.
What Happened In The Hospital?
Soundarya was taken to a nearby private hospital where doctors tried to revive her breath. But nothing worked on her body and she was declared brought dead. Her body was shifted to Bowring Hospital for an autopsy after which the body was handed to Dr. Neeraj for the last rites.
What Was The Reason For Suicide?
Karnataka Home Minister Araga Jnanendra briefed the newspersons about the reason for this drastic step by Soundarya. He said that she was suffering from post-pregnancy depression.
The minister said that there was no doubt about her depression. The family knew that she was battling post-pregnancy depression. Yediryurappa was really upset. Soundarya and her husband Dr. Neeraj were a good couple.
Soundarya was a practicing doctor and the family had no hint that she could take this drastic step. Chief Minister Basaaraj Bommai, and senior BJP leaders visited Yediyurappa’s to offer their condolences.
