Every year 27th September is celebrated as World Tourism Day to promote tourism with different themes. Initiated by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), World Tourism Day is celebrated in different host countries every year.

During the two-year lockdown period, it was the tourism sector that received a major setback due to travel restrictions. The theme ‘Rethinking Tourism’ underlines the need to redevelop the tourism sector in the post-pandemic world.
What Is The Significance Of World Tourism Day?
World Tourism Day educates people about the significance tourism has in the interaction between cultures, communities, societies, and countries. Also, it has socio-economic benefits for countries. And it won’t be an exaggeration to say that the tourism sector supports different industries like air travel, hospitality, transportation, food, and gifts. This year, the event is hosted by Bali and the representatives of UNWTO are expected to participate in the event.
What Is The History Of World Tourism Day?
The United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) proposed a day to celebrate tourism for the growth and development of the tourism sector in the year 1979. And the celebrations began the next year in 1980. Also, 27 September was set for celebrations to coincide with the anniversary of the adoption of the Statutes of UNWTO.
UNWTO also decided that host countries will celebrate World Tourism Day every year. Initially, the celebrations were mainly focused on the promotion of tourism as a global industry. This year Bali is the host country for the celebrations.
