Nipah Virus: A New Case Reported And One Patient Is Progressing Well

Good news is coming from Kerala that is battling with the second outbreak of Nipah virus but doing well. Nipah patients in the Government Medical College, Ernakulam are stated to be stable.

On Monday, the medical college admitted a new patient to its isolation ward for treating Nipah patients. He is from Varapuzha and he received virus after coming into contact with another patient. The new patient took the total number of patients admitted in the isolation ward to 8.

Body fluid samples from the five patients – one each from Thrissur Medical College and Idukki district hospital and the new patient in the Ernakulam medical college – were taken and sent for detail examination.

Samples of two patients already admitted in the Ernakulam medical college were also taken for second phase of testing.

Overall condition of the Nipah patients admitted to the isolation ward of Ernakulam medical college is said to be stable. A patient tested positive for Nipah virus and recuperating in a private facility is responding to the treatment well. According to a health bulletin he walked without any help on Monday.

Earlier, the Ernakulam medical college set a 30-bed isolation ward for Nipah patients in a trail run. It includes monitoring of patients from the time they are brought to the hospital.

U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo Will Visit New Delhi To Boost Defence Ties

U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo announced his India visit amid speculations that he could attend the India Ideas U.S. India Business Council event on Wednesday and Thursday this week.

Mr. Pompeo will visit New Delhi as part of the Indo-Pacific strategy of President Donald Trump according to a State Department briefing on Monday.

The State Department spokesperson Morgan Ortagus said that Mr. Pompeo’s India would visit India between June 24 and 30. Mr. Pompeo on an official tour of three countries – India, Sri Lanka and Japan – and he’ll start his tour from New Delhi.

Mr. Ortagus further stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s landslide victory in recent elections was an opportunity for Mr. Pompeo to put forward his vision of a strong and prosperous India ready to play a leading role on a global platform.

Mr. Pompeo said he was looking forward for the opportunity to deliver the set of remarks about how America’s relationship is closely tied economically and U.S. and India can continue to do to develop an important relationship.

Trump administration is looking for stronger defence and strategic relationship with India as its Indo-Pacific strategy. But in reality, the U.S. wants to curb the growing influence of China in the region and globe.
